What is competency-based, direct assessment education?
- Competency-based learning refers to learning and demonstrating knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes. It preserves the apprenticeship model.
- Student progress is based on demonstration of proficiency of knowledge, skills, abilities and attitudes.
- Learning can occur in many contexts, including but not limited to a formal or classroom setting or a community-based clinical setting.
- Competency-based, direct assessment education programs are not grade based, not tied to classroom hours and not time based, giving the student the maximum opportunity to individualize both program pace and learning processes.
