CLINICAL RELATIONSHIPS
The CTM Program encourages students to be in a clinical apprenticeship upon entry into the program, and requires students to be working with a preceptor as a condition of entry into Term 3 when they begin practicing as an assistant under supervision. The program is based on the understanding that midwifery education is inextricable from midwifery practice. The majority of learning is self-directed, utilizing the Syllabus/Study Guide as a framework. Each Term’s Syllabus/Study Guide advances the depth of knowledge acquired by the student in conjunction with increasing responsibilities in the clinical setting as skills and abilities. Successful integration of didactic knowledge and clinical practice is identified through regular progress through required clinical experiences, an increasing number of signatures on NARM form 201a, and the successful demonstration of competency in all knowledge assessments during the In-Residence week at the end of each term.
Standardization Workshops given during the In-Residence Week provide a starting point for self study and create a framework for the integration of new knowledge skills and abilities. Workshops utilize powerpoint presentations, class discussion, demonstration, role-play, case studies, and skills practice as applicable
